A New Home for the Lady Canes at Dellinger Park

A great softball complex does more than give a team a place to play. It gives players a place to prepare, compete, build confidence, and create memories with the people who support them. It becomes part of the rhythm of a school and community, from early practices to late-season games and everything in between.
That is what the new Dellinger Park Softball Complex brings to Cartersville, Georgia.
Advanced Sports Group recently completed the turf construction for two new synthetic turf softball fields at Dellinger Park, creating a dedicated home for the Cartersville High School and Middle School Lady Canes while expanding opportunities for Cartersville Parks & Recreation programs. The completed complex was celebrated with a community ribbon cutting on

July 30, followed by facility tours and the Lady Canes’ first scrimmage on their new home field.

Reimagining the Site for Softball
The Dellinger Park project transformed two existing grass fields into two purpose-built softball fields. That distinction matters. A dedicated softball complex is planned around the way softball athletes, coaches, families, and fans actually use a facility. From the field geometry and dugout relationships to the spectator experience and the way teams move through the site, every element has a job to do. The result is a cohesive home for the Lady Canes, not simply a pair of fields placed inside a larger park. The two new fields sit within a broader complex that includes upgraded grandstand seating, an outfield spirit bleacher, new perimeter fencing, improved lighting, a signature arched entry, and a dedicated fieldhouse. Together, these improvements give athletes a place to train, prepare, and compete in one connected environment.

Built From the Ground Up
The finished green-and-purple fields are the visible part of the project, but a quality synthetic turf system starts far below the surface. ASG’s scope included full excavation and grading, an advanced drainage and base system, precision laser grading, and custom synthetic turf installation.

Each of those steps plays a role in how a field performs. Proper grading supports consistent slope and playability. The engineered drainage and base system are designed to move water efficiently and help the surface remain ready after rain. Precision laser grading supports a consistent finish across the field, which is especially important for a sport where the infield and outfield need to perform predictably over long seasons of use.

Once the base was ready, our crews installed 82,722 square feet of field turf across the two softball fields, along with 5,800 square feet of landscape turf that helps complete the finished complex. Together, these surfaces provide a durable, game-ready environment for the Lady Canes and the broader Cartersville community.

The visual details were equally important. The finished outfields feature the Lady Canes name and bold purple script branding. Green striped turf, red clay- colored infields, and clean white field markings create a polished home-field presentation that is unmistakably Cartersville. These are the details athletes notice when they walk through the gate, fans see from the bleachers, and young players remember when they picture themselves playing on that field one day.

Built for Year-Round Use
For busy municipal and school facilities, the value of synthetic turf is not limited to how it looks on opening day. It is about availability.
Grass fields can require lengthy recovery periods after rain, repeated maintenance, and protection from overuse. A synthetic turf softball field is built to handle a fuller calendar of practices, games, tournaments, camps, and community events.
At Dellinger Park, the new fields give Cartersville City Parks and Cartersville City Schools a more reliable surface for high-volume use. ASG’s project page identifies the core benefits as lower maintenance requirements, improved durability, consistent playability, and faster turnaround after rain. For athletes, that means more opportunities to get reps in. For coaches, it means greater confidence when scheduling practices and games. For families and spectators, it means a more dependable experience from the first pitch to the final out.
The complex also has a larger purpose. Dellinger Park serves both school athletics and community recreation, so this investment reaches beyond a single program. It supports youth and adult softball, gives the City a stronger facility for hosting, and creates a high-quality environment that can be enjoyed for years to come.

Celebrating a Community Investment
The ribbon cutting was a fitting way to mark the opening of the new Dellinger Park Softball Complex. The photos from the day show Lady Canes players, coaches, school and city leaders, project partners, and community members gathered at the fields they will now call home. It was a celebration of a completed project, but it was also a celebration of what the space represents. Facilities like this tell student-athletes that their hard work matters. They give
coaches more tools to develop their programs. They give parents a place to watch their children compete with pride. And they give a community a reason to gather around the game.
